Holiday Activities and Food

    Home Holiday Activities and Food

Darlington Parent Carer Forum receives funding from the local authority for the Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme. This allows us to organise activities for children with SEND and their siblings during school holidays.

In previous HAF programmes, we have been able to offer inclusive activity places to 272 children and young people across 12 different events. These include trampolining and climbing at ROF59, a Hippodrome tour, create and paint, junior kitchen, SEND learn to ride and inclusive sessions at 4motion skate park.

Please note that places are limited, and we use Eventbrite so bookings can be monitored. We encourage parents to tell us well in advance if they are no longer able to attend their booking so that we can reallocate spaces.

“We attended a session today, with my daughter who is diagnosed with ADHD and on the pathway for ASD, and my niece who has spina bifida and hydrocephalus

“The representative from the PCF was very enthusiastic and warm – made everyone feel welcome and made everyone at ease, ready for the session to go ahead. She continued to chat and bring everyone together throughout the session which provided a lovely atmosphere.

“The ladies at junior kitchen were very accommodating and made sure everything was accessible for my niece, who is wheelchair bound with limited movement. She felt very included in the session and for both girls, it was fantastic for their independence skills, allowing them to learn life skills in a safe and fun environment alongside building up their confidence with things that they may sometimes struggle with.

“Even better, the girls got to take everything that they had baked home to enjoy! Thank you for a fantastic session!”

“Prior to the SEN bike sessions, my daughter was unable to ride a bike. Multiple family members had tried and it had led to a very frustrated child, who had zero confidence in her ability. We had given up until these sessions were advertised. We signed up but I didn’t hold out much hope of it being successful.

“On arrival, my daughter was met with the smiles and approachable faces of the PCF and Wheel Education Ltd. They worked quickly to build rapport and had my daughter using the balance bikes successfully in a matter of minutes. Everyone was incredibly supportive and Wheel Education Ltd provided bikes for the children to practise riding before moving onto building their confidence with their own bikes.

“By the end of the session, my daughter was confidently cycling her own bike – by the next session, she was doing laps of Eastbourne sports track. The improvement in her confidence and ability was astounding! To the point, she wanted to ride her bike around the local park on the afternoon. The PCF provided packed lunches for the children and were equally encouraging. It was also nice to chat to parents who had experienced similar difficulties when trying to get their children riding.

“It was such a successful session for our family, and we are very grateful for the opportunity.”
